MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT

Main Mission

To ensure that all equipment on site are maintained to the standard of the company.

  • Maintenance Performance
  • Maintenance admin function.
  • Stores stock control.
  • Maintenance H.R. function.
  • Quality maintenance function.

Activities/ Tasks

  • Waits pre-shift toolbox talk and run the topic. (5min discussion)
  • Lease with safety reps every shift and follow up on issues raised
  • Ensure that all accidents/incidents/injuries get reported to the
  • Maintenance Manager immediately. (Follow the SOP on incident and accident reporting)
  • Eliminate all possible hazards and risks on your shift and escalate any hazard that can't be fixed or mitigated by yourself to the Maintenance Manager
  • Do pre-shift inspections on all areas of responsibility and rectified if needed to ensure the area is safe.
  • Ensure all Mechanical staff are in procession of a valid pit licenses and have them on them at shift change.
  • Ensure all employees are wearing the correct PPE.
  • Do at least one PTO per shift.
  • Collect all pre-start checklists and submit them to the data clerk

PLANT PERFORMANCE

  • Maintain 95% availability.
  • Liaise with supervisors on a daily basis.
  • Control all your tools under your supervision.
  • Tool inspections to be conducted on a monthly basis.
  • Service according to Avantech service card schedule.
  • Conduct a monthly tool box inspection.
  • Co-ordinate all daily services and ensure all support equipment and correct tooling are available to complete the service.
  • Service cards to be signed off on a daily basis.
  • Check tyre pressures on a daily basis.
  • Control all support equipment.

MAINTENANCE ADMIN FUNCTION

  • Keep the history files updated daily.
  • Check and sign all service cards on a daily basis.
  • Check and agree all consumable and oil sheets daily before they are processed

STORES STOCK CONTROL

  • Sign and check all stores issues. Incorrect issues to be returned to store

MAINTENANCE H.R FUNCTION

  • To initiate all relevant disciplinary actions.
  • Co-ordinate leave schedules of employees.
  • Control staff and quality of work at all times.
  • Responsible to control and discipline all employees under your control.

TOTAL QUALITY OF THE MAINTENANCE FUNCTION

  • Comply with all safety standards.
  • Workshop will be expected to physically get involved in daily services and repairs.
  • Earth Moving Plant Foreman responsible to hand over shift to the next foreman.
  • Control oil consumption at all times and submits oil consumption report to Workshop Manager at morning meeting.
  • Daily liaising with the production foreman re plant availability.
  • Follow up on breakdowns as a matter of urgency.
  • General tidiness and good housekeeping of workshop and other areas of responsibility.
  • Inform production of any machine abuse and condition of pit floors.
  • Inform the production manager/foreman timeously if the service is not completed in the scheduled time.
  • Comply with all relevant standards.
  • Minimize fleet down time and treat with sense of urgency.
  • Perform such other duties of a similar or related matter that may be assigned by Management from time to time.

Qualifications

Experience required

  • 10 years minimum

Level of education

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in mechanical, electrical or mining/industrial engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of maintenance experience in Mining Environment or equivalent, including 2 years of direct management experience
  • Demonstrative leadership, supervisory and management skills
  • Excellent problem solving capabilities
  • Must be able to learn and effectively use local business systems and CMMS systems
  • Must be flexible to adapt to changing and varying work requirements
  • Requires proficient typing skills and to be comfortable with Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook/e-mail
  • Must be able to communicate in english
